Dr Terese Jonsson
I have worked as a non-fiction editor since 2019 and am a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). Prior to becoming an editor, I was a sociology lecturer in higher education. I also have extensive experience working in the non-profit sector.
I love working with words and supporting writers to express their ideas in effective and compelling ways. I am a bookworm who reads widely across genres, and this has helped me develop a keen sense of how elements of writing – such as narrative, structure, language-choice and tone – impact on the clarity of the message.
My neurodivergent processing style includes a high level of attention to nuance and detail, which comes in very useful in my editing work. I also get very geeky about the craft, process and challenges – especially the challenges! – of writing and can often be found reading books about writing for fun.
My love of good writing and experience as a writer informs my work as an editor, and I like working with different types of texts. Having worked in higher education and the non-profit sector, I have written material aimed at a variety of audiences, including academic papers and a book, policy and research reports, campaigning toolkits, training material, and blog posts. In more recent years, I have been developing my creative writing skills and am particularly interested in the creative non-fiction essay form.

My book, Innocent subjects: feminism and whiteness, was published by Pluto Press in 2020.
